Evergreen
Treatment Services is a private, nonprofit organization
which has been delivering evidence-based addiction
treatment services to citizens in Western Washington
since 1973.
Led by Ron Jackson,
M.S.W., the agency's Executive Director and Sam
Cullison, M.D., the clinic's Medical Director, ETS has earned a
nationwide reputation for excellence in the treatment of
opioid dependence and other addictive disorders. A
staff of over 80 professionals, including clinicians
with advanced degrees in medicine, psychiatry, nursing,
psychology, social work, and counseling, currently
provides opioid treatment services to approximately 900 patients at
three clinic locations. Outreach
services offer intensive case management assistance to
indigent alcohol abusers on the streets of downtown
Seattle.
ETS is committed to improving the
quality of drug abuse treatment through involvement in
research and the application of research findings to
clinical practice. The agency is currently participating
as a community-based treatment program site in in the
Washington Node of NIDA's Clinical Trials Network.
Over the past 10 years, ETS' research department has
played a principal role in over 11 major
federally-funded research projects on topics ranging
from the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment
of cocaine dependence, to brief interventions for HIV
risk reduction among injection drug users, to the impact of
contingency management on methadone treatment outcomes.
The results of these and other studies have been published
in prominent peer-review professional journals.
Helping to train future clinicians in
empirically-grounded approaches to addiction treatment
is an important goal at ETS. The agency serves as
a clinical training site for social work and physician
assistant students at the University of
Washington. It also provides training in the use
of acupuncture in addiction treatment to students from
Bastyr University and other alternative medicine
educational institutions.
